1. Intended Use
Shigella real time PCR kit is used for the detection of Shigella in stool or water samples by using real
time PCR systems.
2. Product Description
Shigellosis is an infectious disease caused by a group of bacteria called Shigella. Most who are
infected with Shigella develop diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps starting a day or two after they
are exposed to the bacteria. The diarrhea is often bloody. The Shigella germ is actually a family of
bacteria that can cause diarrhea in humans. They are microscopic living creatures that pass from
person to person. Shigella were discovered over 100 years ago by a Japanese scientist named Shiga,
for whom they are named. Determining that Shigella is the cause of the illness depends on laboratory
tests that identify Shigella in the stools of an infected person.
Shigella real time PCR kit contains a specific ready-to-use system for the detection of the Shigella
(including S.boydii, S.dysenteriae, S.flexneri and S.sonnei) using PCR (polymerase chain reaction)
in the real-time PCR system. The master contains reagents and enzyme for the specific amplification
of the Shigella DNA. Fluorescence is emitted and measured by the real time systems´ optical unit
during the PCR. The detection of amplified Shigella DNA fragment is performed in fluorimeter
channel FAM with the fluorescent quencher BHQ1. In addition, the kit contains a system to identify
possible PCR inhibition by measuring the HEX/VIC/JOE fluorescence of the internal control (IC).
An external positive control defined as 1×108copies/ml is supplied which allow the determination of
