Description
The ViPrimePLUS Ajellomyces capsulatus qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Ajellomyces capsulatus genomes in clinical samples (e.g. respiratory fluids, peritoneal fluids and blood), culture samples and environmental samples.

Ajellomyces capsulatus (a.k.a. Histoplasma capsulatum) is a pathogenic dimorphic fungus which causes lung infection known as Histoplasmosis or Darling's disease. The fungus was first isolated from wooden fragments in Turkey, 1989 and is commonly found in moist soil with high organic content. Transmission of the infection is by inhalation of the particles into the respiratory tract. There are about 250,000 reported cases of infection annually in US, where only 5% of them showed clinical symptoms. Diseases caused include acute respiratory infection, chronic lung disease that resembles tuberculosis, disseminated histoplasmosis which is fatal if left untreated, and ocular histoplasmosis syndrome (OHS) that contributes to vision loss. Individuals who are immunosuppressed and young infants are more susceptible to develop serious complications. PCR research is currently of interest due to its fast and accurate diagnosis features.
