Description
The ViPrimePLUS Botrytis cinerea qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Botrytis cinerea genomes in plant tissue samples.

Botrytis cinerea is an airborne plant fungi pathogen with a necrotrophic lifestyle attacking over 230 crop hosts worldwide. It causes huge economic losses in terms of yield and quality. Wet and cool weathers are the optimum conditions for fungal growth. A variety of defense mechanisms maintain the pathogen in a latent state in immature fruits, but these mechanisms diminish during berry ripening. Such fungal infection causes gray mold, also known as rotting in ripe fruits, especially after a long period of rainfall, close to harvesting. As the fungus is ever present in the environment, no preventive measures can totally rid of the organism. However, the spread of the disease can be reduced by removing dead leaves and infected fruits. After harvest, the fungus survives in the soil as small, black, inactive sclerotia on tilled-in leaves and fruit. Fungicides are commonly used to control the disease; however the traces of the residues in vegetable crops and soil may have harmful effect on human.
