Description
The ViPrimePLUS Burkholderia pseudomallei qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Burkholderia pseudomallei genomes in clinical samples (e.g. nasal discharges, urine, milk).

Burkholderia pseudomallei are Gram negative bacteria that cause Melioidosis disease (a.k.a. Whitmore’s disease) in the Southeast Asia and Northern Australia region. Other tropical and subtropical regions may record sporadic cases of infection. It is transmitted via contact with contaminated soil on wound, inhalation of contaminated dust and ingestion of contaminated water. The clinical manifestations are acute localized skin infection or septicemia, acute pulmonary infection, and chronic suppurative infection. Prolonged treatment with antibiotics is required and no vaccines are available at the moment. Due to the pathogen ability to survive in limited nutrients and acidic environment and to be aerosolized, it is listed as a Category B bioterrorism agent by the Centers for Disease Control.
