Description
The ViPrimePLUS Clostridium tetani qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Clostridium tetani genomes in wound swab, blood and faecal samples.

Clostridium spp. represents a group of anaerobic, spore-forming, Gram positive bacteria that infects the gastrointestinal tract, causing serious diarrhea, or the nervous system, causing neurological damage. Clostridium spp. has great survival mechanism because they sporulate under extreme conditions, but transform into infectious form when the environment turns favorable again. Clostridium tetani is responsible in causing tetanus in humans and horses. The organism enters the body through open wounds and releases an exotoxin, i.e. tetanospasmin which causes painful muscles spasms. This commonly affects the face and neck muscles, resulting in lockjaw or trismus and will eventually lead to respiratory failure if left untreated. Vaccination program is now being practiced in many developed and developing countries.
