Description
The ViPrimePLUS Lyme disease qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of the three bacteria causing Lyme disease genomes in clinical samples (e.g. blood, cerebrospinal fluid, skin biopsy).

Lyme disease is a deer tick-borne disease commonly found in North America and Europe. The causing agents include Borrelia burgdorferi, B. afzelli and B. garinii, which are Gram negative bacteria. The ticks at the nymphal stage are most likely to infect people with Lyme disease. Via tick bites, they transfer the bacteria residing in the salivary gland into the human host. The site infection will turn into bull eye rash, which may be accompanied by erythema migraine. Flu-like symptoms such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, headaches and joints pain may follow. If treatment is neglected, dissemination of the infection through the bloodstream may lead to neurological infection and development of chronic symptoms in the heart, lung, and joints. Treatment with antibiotics is usually applied.
