Description
The ViPrimePLUS Plasmodium knowlesi qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Plasmodium knowlesi genomes in clinical samples (e.g. blood).

Plasmodium spp. is an obligate protozoan that causes malaria, a common traveler’s disease. There are about 200 species identified, and 5 of them infect human, i.e. P. falciparum, P. malariae, P. ovale, P. knowlesi and P. vivax. These parasites exploited mosquitoes of the Aedes, Culex, Mansonia, Theobaldia and Anopheles genera to transmit them to different vertebrate host via biting. Symptoms of the infection includes fever, chills, fatigue, headache, nausea, anemia, diarrhea and in severe cases, pulmonary and renal dysfunction. Effective treatment is given based on the parasites’ species identification. Now, the gold standard of the diagnosis is microscopic examination of blood smears, which lacks of sensitivity and requires considerable expertise. Therefore, real time PCR offers a fast, sensitive and specific solution to the diagnosis.
