Description
The ViPrimePLUS Pneumocystis jirovecii qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Pneumoystis jirovecii genomes in clinical samples (e.g. sputum, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and tracheal aspirate).

Pneumocystis jirovecii is previously known as Pneumocystis carinii f. sp. hominis, and it causes opportunistic fungal pneumonia in individuals with weakened immune system. Pneumocystis carinii has been re-defined to only apply to Pneumocystis species in rats, while P. jiroveci is for human. The pathogen enters the lung through inhalation and it adheres to the epithelium of the alveolar. Healthy person normally will not show any symptoms of infections. Disease only occurs when the host immune system is unable to suppress the replication of the organisms. Pneumocystis pneumonia can be observed with symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath and fever. Therefore, this yeast-like infection is one of the most concern opportunistic infections that endangered AIDS and cancer patients.
