Description
The ViPrimePLUS Rubella Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Rubella Virus genome in clinical samples (e.g. nasopharyngeal swab, synovial fluid, cerebrospinal fluid and urine).

Rubella virus is a single stranded RNA virus with 10kb size genome. It is transmitted via the respiratory route. The infection targets the lymph nodes and epithelial cells of the nasopharynx which causes acute disease with swollen gland, fever and rashes. These symptoms are usually mild and last only a few days. The most worrisome complication is the Congenital Rubella Symptom, which is passed down by infected mothers to fetuses. It causes severe birth defects in newborns that vary from ophthalmic, auditory, cardiac and even cerebral damage. The effects are more severe when mothers are infected in the first trimester of the pregnancy. As a preventive measure, the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccination programs in infants are practiced in most developed and developing countries.
